Pastor Tom Mugerwa of Mutundwe Christian Fellowship
Ministries has been invited by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to
submit his request for permission to purchase See Tv, a struggling media
company.
UCC seeks public feedback on whether a particular
applicant deserves a broadcasting license as part of the process of awarding
licenses.
The Commission revealed in a television ad that ran on
June 29th that Pastor Mugerwa is attempting to take over management of See Tv,
which also conducts business as "Planet Broadcasting Ltd."
According to reports, Pastor Mugerwa paid over Shs 800
million to acquire the faltering station.
He is acquiring a 60% stake in the station, with the
remaining shares being held by his wife Justine Mugerwa (20%), son Solomon
Balaba (17%), and senior pastor at the MCF church Ivan Matovu (3%).
After starting its broadcast in August 2021, See Tv
encountered severe financial difficulties.
Employees continuously griped about their challenging
working conditions and unpaid wages.
The workers even sought out public personalities, such as
NUP lawmaker Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa, to assist them in expressing their concerns
to the appropriate parties.
The station eventually went off the air and was shut
down.
To resurrect the station, it is hoped that Pastor Mugerwa
can draw on his extensive media experience and huge following in Uganda and
internationally.
Under his 1991-founded MCF Ministries, Mugerwa boasts of
having one of the largest followings in the nation.
Currently, the 62-year-old runs a Youtube Television
channel with about 150,000 members.
He is the founder and CEO of MCF radio 98.7 FM, which has sister stations throughout Uganda.
