Price
Kwagala known to many in Uganda as “Price Love” was born in Masaka district.
The first born of four children, Price started singing as early as five years
old in Sunday school from where she developed a love for music.
She attended Hope primary school in Nnyendo, Masaka, and Eagle’s nest
secondary school in Kampala for both O&A level, graduated from Africa
Institute of Music with a bachelor ’s degree in Jazz voice performance. Price
is married to Sidney Kalanje and they currently reside in Uganda.
Price grew up in a musical community including the schools she attended
that had a strong musical influences on her. Church also played a big part in
grooming her talent, as she led and still leads cooperate praise and worship.
Price is a voice teacher/ vocal coach, adungu teacher and sings like an angel.
Price picked up “Adungu” a Ugandan traditional instrument also known as
the “Ugandan harp” during her first semester and fell in love with its sound.
She has since played this stringed instrument for her audiences and sings songs
of worship, hope, love, and encouragement.
She started writing songs in primary school from the many experiences
and has since improved her craft through music education. She has written for
various artists in Uganda including The Worship house choir, Sami-K, Gagamagoo,
Hawa Mawa, Children At Risk Action Network (CRANE), and African Children’s
Choir, among others.
Price performed at the Ugandan national prayer breakfast in 2013 with
her Adungu and in the same year released her very first album “Tales” a ten
track collection of songs that launched her as an artist in Uganda.
Price’s music is full of heart and soul, the kind that all ages can
listen to and enjoy. She makes video covers of wonderful songs with her
beautiful instrument “Adungu”on her YouTube channel monthly. Her goal is to
inspire change in society through writing powerful lyrics that motivate, heal,
and empower her listeners to live, love and use serve better. She believes that
music is medicine to the soul and hopes that she can continue giving this
medicine till God calls her home.
Price’s second studio album is set to be released early next year 2020
and it is one to look out for.
